Background:
In the past few years we were cable cutters. I was getting by fine using internet and a few streaming services. These days more and more I keep noticing that there are now too many choices for entertainment. Amazon for some odd reason now outranks Netflix on hours watched by me, but ironically the king these days of entertainment that my wife and I both enjoy: YouTube.
I would never have guessed that my wife and I would sit on the couch nearing the end of the day and happily binge watching someone’s channel on YouTube together.
Some positive perks: less (but some) advertising. You can many times skip the ad. The people doing the channel are typically laser focused on the topic and it isn’t mindless drivel.
Free. You can’t beat free. Certainly there are transmission costs like internet and the cost of the Apple TV box we use, but when compared to the costs of monthly cable or satellite, you can’t beat free YouTube.
YouTube Red is pointless at this time. I see no reason to ever subscribe. There was one show I wanted to watch which was that Karate Kid spinoff Cobra Kai. I “borrowed” a copy from a friend and problem solved.
The plan:
I don’t ever seem to watch live television anymore. I honestly think I could do without except for the rare rare case where we wanted to watch something live, like election results for example.
